a presentation by Sharbendu De

Friday, September 07, 2018 | 07:30 PM | Lamakaan
Off-Road No 1, Banjara Hills, Opposite GVK One, Hyderabad, Telangana - 500 034

Join us for a presentation by lens-based visual artist Sharbendu De on the lives of the Lisus, an indigenous forest-dwelling community located on the Indo-Myanmar border of Arunachal Pradesh. Sharbendu will share his photographic and video work through an understanding of the stereotypes and politics of representation of marginalised communities.

Sharbendu De is a lens-based visual artist, academic, and writer. His work explores the intersections between documentary and conceptual approaches. Symbolism, mythology, and dream interpretation influence his art practice. He has an MA in Photojournalism from the University of Westminster, London (2010). His six-year-long photographic project Imagined Homeland is soon to be exhibited at Prix Voies Off in Arles, France, and at the Indian Photography Festival at Hyderabad. Sharbendu grew up in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands but presently lives in New Delhi.

Sharbendu De received a grant under the Arts Research programme, made possible with support from Titan Company Limited.
