Talk&Disc on Real Kashmir Files
Fri Mar 25, 7:30 PM
Secular Intervention and In Defense of Reason
*Topic*: Talk and Discussion on The Real Kashmir Files

*Description*: "The Kashmir Files" movie claims to show the truth behind the killings and exodus of Kashmiri Pandits. However, in reality it is a deceitful mix of half-truths and naked lies aimed at spreading hatred against Muslims, Secularists and Leftists rather than giving an insight into the plight of Kashmiri Pandits. But the question is, how do we understand the problem of Kashmiri Pandits from secular perspective and how it is related to the larger Kashmir problem. Who was responsible for the killings and exodus of the pandits from the Kashmir valley? The talk and discussion will be focussed on addressing these questions.

"Main Speaker" : Anand Singh , political activist and analyst
(Anand has visited kashmir valley and interacted with ordinary Kashmiris about various aspects of Kashmir problem)

Celebrating Aki Kaurismäki
Wed Apr 6, 7:30 PM
Lamakaan
The month of April 2022 is dedicated to the finest Finnish Screenwriter & Director, Aki Olavi Kaurismäki, born 4 April 1957.

Kaurismäki is known for his extremely minimalistic style. He has been called an auteur, since he writes, directs, produces, and usually edits the films himself, and thus introduces his personal "drollery and deadpan" style. The dialogue is famously laconic: the articulation is unadorned, direct, and in strict standard language, without showing much emotion or drama. Characters frequently stand still and recite the dialogue as if it consisted of eternal truths or nothing at all. These characters rarely smile, nod sadly, and smoke constantly. The camera is usually still. Events are shown in a plain manner and characters are usually left alone to face the consequences. However, despite their tragedies and setbacks, the characters don't give up and eventually survive.

Movie: Ariel (1988), Dur: 73 minutes

A Finnish coal miner is convicted for a crime he didn't commit and dreams of breaking out to board the 'Ariel'- a ship bound for South America.

The screening will be followed by a discussion about the film and its elements.

Film Screening followed by Discussion

'Look Who's Back' is a satirical black comedy movie made in 2015. In this movie, Hitler reappears in 21st century and finds that the world is changed a lot in terms of material and technological progress. But he feels that the technological developments are not being put to proper use in terms of political propaganda even though there is a huge scope of his kind of politics. He starts appearing in a comedy TV show and becomes hugely popular. The strong anti-immigrant, anti-refugee and anti-muslim sentiments among the modern day Germany makes him convinced that he can make a political comeback.
