Coen Brothers IV

Our month of Coen Brothers' screenings includes a film by another director who paved the way for the kind of work the Coen Brothers did. The Long Goodbye (1973) updates Philip Marlowe, the iconic hard-boiled detective created by the novelist Raymond Chandler in the 1940s and who laid the template for many a classical Hollywood detective thriller. Marlowe now is a scruffy remnant of the 1960s, harassed by, among others, an incredibly fussy cat.
