Prehistoric Sites and Prehistoric Cultures of Telangana
A presentation by Sririamoju Haragopall, well-known researcher and Convenor of Telangana Kotha Charitra Brundam (TKCB), a group of nearly 200 voluntary/freelance researchers. based on their over two decades of extensive field studies through the length and breadth of Telangana.
తెలంగాణాలో చరిత్రపూర్వయుగ మానవసంస్కృతులకు ఇది సంక్షిప్త పరిచయం మాత్రమే. మనిషి మనిషిగా ఈ నేలమీద పరిణామం పొందినప్పటి నుంచి తను జీవించిన జీవనగమనాన్ని, కాలంతో ప్రయాణంగా గణించి, పరిశీలించినవే చరిత్రకెక్కాయి. దొరికిన రాతి పనిముట్టు మనిషి జాడను చెప్పింది. తనా పనిముట్టును తయారుచేసుకున్న సాంకేతికతను వివరించింది. ఆ పరికరం పనితనాన్ని బోధించింది. ఎంతెంత దూరమో, ఎంతెంత కాలమో మానవుల అడుగుల జాడల్ని దాచివుంచింది ఈ నేల. కొండలు, కోనలు, చెట్లు, నదులగట్లు, సెలయేళ్ళ దరులు, పరుపురాతిబండలు, పడగరాతినీడలు, బురదనేలలు మనుషుల సంచారతత్వాన్ని రికార్డు చేసాయి. అట్ల జరిగింది కనుకనే మనకు మన పూర్వుల నాగరికతాసంస్కృతుల అన్వేషణ సాధ్యమైంది. మానవ పరిణామంలో మనుషులు ఎదిగొచ్చిన కాలంమెట్లదారి కనుగొనగలుగుతున్నాం.
This is only a brief introduction to the prehistoric human cultures of Telangana. From the moment humans emerged as humans upon this soil, only those parts of their life journey—measured and observed as a passage through time—have entered the record of history. The stone tools unearthed speak of human presence here. They reveal the technology used to craft them. They demonstrate the skill embodied in those implements. Across vast distances and immense stretches of time, this land has concealed the footprints of our ancestors. Hills, valleys, trees, riverbanks, stream beds, polished rock surfaces, the shadows beneath overhanging boulders, and muddy grounds—all have silently documented humanity's wandering nature. It is because of this preservation that we can now explore and understand the civilizations and cultures of our forebears. We are gradually tracing the steps of time along which humans have evolved and advanced.
About Sriramoju Haragopal: Sriramoju Haragopal hails from the village of Aaleru in the present Yadadri-Bhongir district. What began as a curiosity about how his village got its name gradually led him into deeper historical research in some 40 villages around Aaleru. ‘Kotta Telangana Charitra Brundam’ or the New Telangana History Group emerged from the confluence of students and colleagues who helped him in this initial research.
After his retirement as government school teacher and head master, Haragopal plunged into vigorous field research with some help from the organisation Telangana Jagruti (2013 to 2019). The nearly 200 associates he gathered during that stint continue to travel and bring out ever-new findings almost every week. As a result, they have succeeded in expanding and deepening the historical and cultural knowledge and scholarship about Telangana by accumulating a massive amount of data.
