As October passes by, dry and unexpectedly warm, Hyderabad begins to look hopefully towards November, waiting for those first hints of winter in the evening air. In much the same way, Lamakaan welcomes the season with The Coen Brothers Film Festival, held every Wednesday evening throughout November 2026. November is also a special month for the Coens, as Joel Coen was born on November 29, 1954. Their films are perfect companions for long autumn evenings: funny yet profound, entertaining yet philosophical, and always unpredictable. Whether they are telling stories about criminals, dreamers, musicians, ordinary workers, or lost souls, the Coens remind us that life is often stranger, funnier, and more mysterious than we imagine. Their films reward repeated viewing and continue to inspire filmmakers and audiences across generations.

Joel Coen (born November 29, 1954) and Ethan Coen (born September 21, 1957) are among the most celebrated filmmaker siblings in cinema history. Born and raised in Minnesota, USA, the brothers have spent more than four decades creating films that blend dark comedy, crime, drama, noir, satire, and American folklore in uniquely original ways. Their cinema is known for eccentric characters, razor-sharp dialogue, visual precision, unexpected twists, and a distinctive blend of humor and tragedy. Their remarkable body of work includes classics such as Barton Fink (1991), Fargo (1996), The Big Lebowski (1998), O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000), No Country for Old Men (2007), A Serious Man (2009), and Inside Llewyn Davis (2013). No Country for Old Men won the Academy Awards for Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay, cementing their place among the masters of contemporary cinema. Unlike many filmmakers who work within a single genre, the Coens effortlessly move between comedy, thriller, western, musical, and drama, while maintaining a voice that is unmistakably their own. Their contribution to cinema lies in redefining American storytelling through films that are at once entertaining, literary, ironic, and deeply human.

Film Title: NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN | 2007 | 122 Mins | USA | English & Spanish with English Subtitles.

About the film: No Country for Old Men is a 2007 American neo-Western crime thriller film written, directed, produced, and edited by Joel and Ethan Coen, based on Cormac McCarthy's 2005 novel. Starring Tommy Lee Jones, Javier Bardem, and Josh Brolin, the film is set in the desert landscape of West Texas in 1980, United States. The film revisits the themes of fate, conscience, and circumstance that the Coen brothers explored in Blood Simple (1984), Raising Arizona (1987), and Fargo (1996). It follows three main characters: Llewelyn Moss (Brolin), a Vietnam War veteran and welder who stumbles upon a large sum of money in the desert, Anton Chigurh (Bardem), a hitman who is sent to recover the money, and Ed Tom Bell (Jones), a sheriff investigating the crime. The film also stars Kelly Macdonald as Moss's wife, Carla Jean, and Woody Harrelson as Carson Wells, a bounty hunter seeking Moss and the return of the money.
