Lamakaan
Lamakaan invites you to a series of films on Palestine.

Stitching Palestine is the first part of the solidarity film festival of Palestine.

Directed by Directed by Carol Mansour

Synopsis: Twelve Palestinian women sit before us and talk of their life before the Diaspora, of their memories, of their lives and of their identity. Their narratives are connected by the enduring thread of the ancient art of embroidery. Twelve resilient, determined and articulate women from disparate walks of life: lawyers, artists, housewives, activists, architects, and politicians stitch together the story of their homeland, of their dispossession, and of their unwavering determination that justice will prevail. Through their stories, the individual weaves into the collective, yet remaining distinctly personal. Twelve women, twelve life-spans, and stories from Palestine; a land whose position was fixed on the map of the world, but is now embroidered on its face.

The Art of Drawing a SMILE
Sat Nov 25, 3:00 PM

Some universal truths never fade, like the one below:

“For the want of a nail the shoe was lost,
For the want of a shoe the horse was lost,
For the want of a horse the rider was lost,
For the want of a rider the battle was lost,
For the want of a battle the kingdom was lost,
And all for the want of a horseshoe-nail.”

Very often the "Nail" can be referred to as just one small act in the right direction, that can make all the difference in our life. Yet, we cannot defy our habitual patterns and keep struggling with a hope that "One day things might be fine, and very often that 'one-day' for most of us becomes the day, from where the U-turn becomes impossible. Ramchandar's trial brings startling facts into light that questions the norms of society. This Court Martial is presided by war veteran Col. Darpan theatre
Saadat Hasan Manto is known to most of us as the ‘serious, brooding’ playwright.
But Manto also authored a series of hilarious urdu radio plays on the bitter-sweet squabbles between couples.

Each play’s title begins with Aao… (Come) and the series is written around three primary characters, Kishore, his wife Lajwanti and his friend Narayan. Darpan Theatre Group presents Mazhaiya Mizaj E Manto, his comical take on the sweet and tangy relationship between a couple and will be staging two stories from Manto’s lesser-known ‘Aao...’ series, Aao Khoj Karein and Aao Kahani Likhein. The plot revolves around delightful banter between Kishore and Lajwanti and the timely interception of Narayan in each new situation.

Aao kahani likhein’ has Lajwanti insisting that she and Kishore “write a story together”. Narayan joins them and three drive the story in three different directions till they end up with a real comical script.

Aao Khoj Lagayein is a story where Kishore tries to find the thief and how they react when they come to know about the thief's motive behind stealing?

As Darpan revisits plays from Manto's Aao series, be a part of this beautiful adventure and witness the humorous scrapes and escapades between the Kishore, Lajwanti and Narayan

In the wake of the Telangana Assembly elections, political parties have entered the fray with attractive manifestos. Promises are raining down to the point of suffocating the common man. The polling date is only days away. And what do people want? Is the common man satisfied with the promises of the parties? Have the aspirations of the students and youth who played an active role in the separate state movement been fulfilled?

పార్టీల మేనిఫెస్టోలను యువత ఎలా చూస్తోంది?
ప్రభుత్వాల నుంచి ఏం కోరుకుంటోంది?

The Art of Drawing a SMILE
Sat Nov 25, 3:00 PM
Udayan Bakshi

Great performances, hard hitting dialogues, intense dramatic moments and a fantastic climax make this play one of the most performed Hindi plays in the last 30 years.
Court Martial is the story of a recruit Ramchandar who is accused of killing his senior officer and injuring another. Ramchandar's trial brings startling facts into light that questions the norms of society. This Court Martial is presided by war veteran Col. Surat Singh, accustomed to the brutality of life but is left completely unarmed and broken during the course of this trial.

Lamakaan invites you to a whole month of Fritz Lang's movies.

Friedrich Christian Anton Lang December 5, 1890 – August 2, 1976), better known as Fritz Lang, was an Austrian film director, screenwriter, and producer who worked in Germany and later the United States. (1943), The Woman in the Window (1944), Scarlet Street (1945) and The Big Heat (1953). He became a naturalized citizen of the United States in 1939.
